Unitalen Won “pccw.cn” Domain Name Dispute

Recently, Beijing No.1 Intermediate People’s Court made a judgment of first instance rejecting the claims of the plaintiff, Situ Lixin. Data Information Service Co. (hereinafter refers to Data Information), represented by Unitalen, won the lawsuit and retains legal right to the domain name “pccw.cn”.

As a subsidiary of Pacific Century Cyberworks, Data Information registered twelve trademarks in respect of “PCCW”, an acronym of the English name of Pacific Century Cyberworks, in China during 2002 and 2003. As for domain names, Data Information has also registered “pccw.com” and “pccw.com.cn” as early as 1998 and 2000 respectively, but left “pccw.cn” untended, which has lead to the domain name dispute.
